Pilates & Back Care
What is Pilates?
Pilates is one of the most popular exercise systems in the world and is supported and recommended by Doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors as a valuable tool to relieve back pain.
Core strength is the foundation of pilates exercises. The core muscles are the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When these core muscles are doing their job correctly, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and allow correct movement of all joints in the body.
What are the benefits of Pilates?
Pilates exercises are performed on either a mat on the floor, or on exercise equipment such as the reformer.
Reformer – Pilates equipment that requires you to push and pull a carriage using spring resistance. This promotes length, strength, flexibility and balance and is often used in rehabilitation following surgery to the back, hip, shoulder and knee.
Pilates is suitable for any age and any ability.
I offer matwork classes from my beautiful home studio which is light and airy with underfloor heating and beautiful views.
Our Pilates classes are small with a maximum of 8 people in each class at a cost of £12 per class.
We run 3 terms in conjunction with the school term dates. Usually this comprises 6 weeks for each half term making the term a 12week course. (dates can vary)
